Redfield – Mass of Christian Burial for Robert Allen Knigge, 55, of Redfield was Thursday, June 27, 2013 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Redfield with Rev. Christopher Hughes officiating.
Burial was in St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery, Redfield.
A liturgical wake was held Wednesday, June 26 with visitation at the church.
Robert died Sunday, June 23, 2013 at his home with his wife and his family at his side.
Robert Allen Knigge, son of Wallace and Toyoko “Jeannie” (Matsuda) Knigge was born Feb. 4, 1958 in Waynesville, Mo. When he was in the fifth grade the family moved to Woonsocket, where he graduated from high school with the class of 1977. He went on to attend Mitchell Area Vo-Tech where he studied architectural drafting. Robert then worked in the construction industry for a short time. Robert returned to Mitchell Area Vo-Tech to study meat cutting. Robert began his grocery career at Sunshine Foods in Mitchell. He later became manager at County Fair Foods in Mitchell.
Robert was united in marriage to Lynette Bame Jaton on Sept. 14, 1996 in Mitchell. They made their home in Redfield where they purchased a grocery store and named it B&L Food Pride. Robert and Lynette also purchased the grocery store in Oakes, N.D. and are partners with David and Lisa Bruns in a grocery store in Linton, N.D. In 2012 Robert and Lynette purchased Sieglings Grocery Store in Redfield. They remodeled this store and merged both stores to rename them Redfield Food Center.
Robert cherished every moment he spent with his children and grandchildren. He loved to hunt, especially big game. His favorite was elk. Robert also enjoyed fishing and camping.
Robert was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, Redfield.
Robert is survived by his wife, Lynette; seven sons, Jason Knigge, Jason (Tessa) Jaton, Keith Jaton, Wesley Jaton, Bryer Knigge, Bryce Knigge and Preston Knigge all of Redfield; three daughters, Alicia (Cody) Gramkow of Scotland, Kalie (Tom) Dey of Aberdeen and Cami Knigge of Redfield; two brothers, David Knigge of Redfield and Kevin (Sharon) Knigge of Las Vegas, Nev.; one sister, Donna (Dihl) Bult of Harrisburg; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Casketbearers were David Bruns, Lee Knigge, Ernie Stratmeyer, David Knigge, Kevin Knigge and Dihl Bult.
The organist was Barbara Baus, the Cantor was Sheri Zens, Lector, was Mary Ann Osborn with Brexton Roth, and Adam Hyke and Gabe Suchor, Mass Servers.
