Mitchell

    Sharon Alice Podhradsky, age 75, of Mitchell died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013 at her home under hospice care from cancer.
Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 16 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with burial in Servicemen’s Memorial Cemetery. Visitation was Friday, Nov. 15 at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service.
Sharon Mathis, daughter of Guy and Alice (Meade) Mathis, was born on the family homestead near Plankinton, on Sept. 16, 1938. Sharon moved to the Mitchell area with her family when she was young. She attended and graduated from Letcher High School in 1957. While in school, Sharon was the librarian, active in chorus, declam, high school annual staff and played tuba in the band.
On Aug. 28, 1957 she was united in marriage with John (Jack) Morgan at St. Scholastica’s Catholic Church in Letcher. They were blessed with four children, Cynthia, David, Barbara and John. Jack passed away on Jan. 15, 1964.
Sharon later married Wallace Podhradsky on Aug. 13, 1965 in Woonsocket. To this union the couple were blessed with two children, Craig and Lisa.
Sharon was employed as a secretary at D&L Implement, Methodist Hospital and Queen of Peace Hospital until her retirement.
Sharon was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She was very involved with the community and her church. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters, the Altar Society, Women of the Moose, Mooseheart and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Sharon was an excellent gardener and cook She cherished her faith, family time, especially holding all those grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will forever be in her heart, and swimming with friends.
She is survived by her five children, Craig (Peggy) Podhradsky of Huron, Cyndi Baas of Sioux Falls, Barb Culver of Mitchell,  John Morgan of Alexandria and Lisa (Brian) Zirpel of Rio Rancho, N.M.; a daughter-in-law, Tami Morgan of Mitchell; 16 grandchildren; 28+ great-grandchildren; four brothers, Gene Mathis of Mitchell, Doug (Leatta) Mathis of Lead, Allan Mathis of Rapid City and Dan Mathis of Edgemont; six sisters, Margaret Geralds of Sioux Falls, Mavis (Glen) Carver of Sioux Falls,  Marilyn (Lad) Greene of Buffalo, Wyo., Judy (Alvin) Fischer of Mitchell, Joanie (Rick) Hartenhoff of Sioux Falls and Janie (Lloyd) Morrison of Mitchell; a brother-in-law, Ray Syrovatka of Tacoma, Wash.; sister-in-law, Jeanette Mathis of Sundance, Wyo.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Morgan; her second husband, Wally Podhradsky on June 14, 2002; her son, David Morgan on Nov. 26, 2001; grandchildren, Iszabella Morgan and baby Jessica Therrian; her parents; her sisters, Mary Mathis and Delores Syrovatka; a brother, Rodger Mathis; her in-laws, Dan and Sylvia Morgan and Elsie and Walter Podhradsky; and a sister-in-law, Betty Mathis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
