Thomas Michael Selland, 61, died on Nov. 17, 2013 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls after a short battle with cancer.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at St. Wilfrid Catholic Church, Woonsocket. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Eventide Cemetery, Woonsocket.
Basham Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.
Tom was born on Dec. 9, 1951 to Edmund and Olga (Wahl) Selland in Wessington Springs. He grew up on a farm near Letcher and attended country school and graduated from  Mt. Vernon High School in 1970. He attended Dakota State University for one year, then returned to his first love, farming.
Tom married Sandra Nelson on June 16, 1973 and had been a life-long farmer/rancher near Forestburg up until the time of his illness. Tom and Sandy raised three children, twin daughters, Ivy and Holly, and son, Merlin.
Tom enjoyed his livestock, anything with sugar in it, a good visit, a good book, a good joke, visiting on the phone and most of all his family. His grandkids were a source of happiness for him and he felt lucky they were all close by. Tom was a person who would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it and then help you put it on.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy; daughters, Ivy (Stacy) Senska and Holly (Jim) Cech; son, Merlin (Vivian DeWitt); four grandchildren; sisters, Jane Eakin and Jill (Bob) Siedschlaw; aunts, Carol (Benny) Mulder and Elaine Bock; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, and several close friends.
