Lady Blackhawks earn third District 6B title

To battle No. 3 DeSmet for Region title and State “B” berth

SCW used the fourth quarter to make sure JVC’s season was over, only allowing two points and putting the final score at 55-27, to win the District 6B title for the third year in a row.
Sanborn Central/Woonsocket, 21-1 and rated No. 4, will battle third-ranked DeSmet in the Region 3B game, Friday night at 8 p.m. in the Huron Arena. The winner earns a trip to the State “B” Tournament, March 13-15 in Huron.
The Distrtict Championship game started out slow for both sides, but a 9-0 run late in the first quarter, led by Myah Selland with five of those points and a three-pointer by Marissa Weber, gave the Hawks a 12-5 lead going into the second.
That set SCW back on track. A field goal by My. Selland and another three-pointer by Weber continued their run with another five points, 14 unanswered, to give them a 17-5 lead early in the second.
The Blackhawks would allow 10 more points and go into the locker room at halftime up 22-15.
The Lady Vikings came out in the second half scoring eight points to SCW’s three. The Hawks came back scoring 12 points to put up a 12 point lead, 37-25, going into the final quarter.
That was when SCW’s defense went to work. The Blackhawks allowed just two points in the fourth, while scoring 18 to get the victory and a return trip to the Regions.
Weber led her team with 15 points, including three three-pointers. Myah Selland had 11 points, while Shelby Selland added 10. Rachel Selland tacked on nine.
S. Selland also had nine rebounds and sister Myah had nine assists and three steals.
James Valley Christian was led by Khiree Held with 11 points and Hannah Loban had eight points and six boards.
