THE ROAD TO PERFECTION

Blackhawks put away Patriots to top off undefeated regular season

The Blackhawks football team continue to make headlines as they finish off a perfect regular season with an easy win over Hitchcock-Tulare, 56-6, Friday night in Hitchcock.
The boys from Woonsocket, Wessington Springs and Sanborn Central spent the season out-scoring their opponents 342-87, averaging over 42 points per game. At press time on Tuesday, the Hawks were pumped up for their first playoff game versus Mt. Vernon/Plankinton to be played that evening in Forestburg.
Versus the Patriots, the Blackhawks racked up 357 yards of offense, led by Landon Ochsner with 163 yards on 13 touches. Tucker Kingsbury accounted for 68 yards for the Hawks.
Hitchcock-Tulare struck first, however, for what would be their only score of the night, on a four-yard pass. After a failed conversion, the Blackhawks took over and began their clinic.
Three scores in the first quarter, two by Ochsner and one by Kingsbury, and three corresponding successful conversions gave the Hawks a comfortable 24-6 lead.
The schooling of the Patriots continued into the second and final quarter of the game. Kingsbury ran in his second touchdown, then tacked two more points on his score with the PAT.
Next, the Blackhawks got Hitchcock-Tulare on a safety for two points.
Trinity Brunsen ran 10 yards for the next touchdown, which was followed by the Blackhawks’ only failed two-point attempt of the night.
Before the halftime break, Logun Feistner ended the game, due to the mercy rule, with touchdown and conversion runs to put the Hawks up 50 points.
H-T managed 176 yards of offense, led by Boston Knippling with 30 yards on three carries.
H-T ended their season 2-6, while the Blackhawks have their sites set on the whole enchilada — a state championship trophy and retribution for last year’s loss at the Dome.

The Lady Blackhawk volleyball team is resting up this weekend following a final 3-0 loss to Mt. Vernon/Plankinton to finish their regular season 15-10.
District play for the Blackhawks will begin next Thursday evening, Nov. 5 in Wessington Springs. They will play the winner of the Wessington Springs versus Iroquois game to be played Tuesday, Nov. 3.
