Larry Raymond Clark, 77, of Mitchell, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Funeral services were Friday, Dec. 18 at the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell, with burial at St. Scholastica Catholic Cemetery in Letcher. Visitation was Thursday, Dec. 17 at the Chapel.
Larry Raymond Clark was born Oct. 2, 1938, to Orlo and Evelyn (Selland) Clark at Mitchell. He attended schools in the Letcher area. Larry served and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps. On Sept. 10, 1962, he married Carol Havlik.
At an early age, Larry started hauling gravel for his father at the Clark Construction Company and later purchased the company from him. He went on to run several successful businesses and in 1993, started Clark Paving Company in Mitchell. In 2007, he retired and his sons took over the business.
Larry was a member of the VFW, Moose and the American Legion. In 1955, he was the South Dakota Light Heavyweight Boxing Champion and was also an outstanding baseball player and storyteller. He enjoyed following the Twins and Cubs.
He is survived by his children, Kelly (John) O’Bryan of Moscow, Idaho, Doug (Erin) Clark of Portland, Ore., Brad (Kristi) Clark of Letcher, and Pat (Mikki) Clark of Mitchell; sister, Mary Jo (Dale) Lang of Watertown; brothers, Tom (Lonni) Clark of Norwood, Colo., and John (Alexis) Clark of Shakopee, Minn.; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Larry was preceded in death by a sister, Donna; infant brother, Jimmy; and his parents.
