Norma Ames, 80, passed away in her home surrounded by family in Longmont, Colo. on Dec. 19, 2015 after a battle with ALS.

Norma was born in Jerico Springs, Mo. to John and Alice (Mitchell) Brown on Oct. 4, 1935. They moved to Woonsocket when she was seven years old. She attended Woonsocket High School and was valedictorian of her class in 1953. Norma earned her nursing degree from Methodist School of Nursing in 1956 and, on Oct. 2, married Ken Ames in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho. After Ken completed his service in the Air Force in Washington, they lived in Miller, moving to Sheridan, Wyo. in 1967 and then to Longmont, Colo. in 1969. Norma was a Registered Nurse at Longmont United Hospital for the last 28 of her 45 years of nursing.
Norma’s passion was to travel, and she had been to more than 27 different countries throughout her life.
Norma was a proud 45-year member of the First United Methodist Church. She volunteered her time for many organizations, such as the Public Library, the OUR Center, Meals on Wheels and donated her time and energy on several mission trips. She enjoyed walking, hiking with friends and family, camping, fishing, gardening, reading and learning about other cultures.
She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as her many wonderful friends.
She is survived by her children, Charles (Paula) Ames, Linda Ames, Connie (Doug) Richardson and John (Gay) Ames; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; her sister, Audrey (Lloyd) Kempf; sisters-in-law, Alice Baruth, Sally Schatz and Pete Ames; and a brother-in-law, Bud Ames.
Her parents and husband of 56 years, Ken Ames, preceded her in death.
