The Sanborn Central Woonsocket Blackhawks Winterguard team traveled to the Minneapolis area to compete in two competitions in the North Star Circuit (NSC) on Feb. 28.
The first performance was at Henry Sibley High School in Mendota Heights in the afternoon, followed by an evening show at Coon Rapids High School. The Blackhawks had a very good showing, increasing their total points earned from the judges by 14.
They received great comments from the judges, especially in the areas of movement and general effect. The group was encouraged to work on showing more emotion throughout the performance and to engage the audience into the meaning of the song.
A winterguard show uses flag spinning, mock rifles and other visual props to help define a story through music, as well as visually capture the instrumentation. The Blackhawks perform a four and a half minute routine to the song “Shatter Me” by Lindsey Stirling.
Most recently, the Blackhawks Winterguard performed at halftime of the State B Girls Basketball tournament game on Friday, March 13 in Huron, and again at the Blackhawks Winter Band Concert at Sanborn Central on March 16. The final competition for Winterguard will be on March 28 in Minnetonka, Minn.
