TRACKS ARE visible in the soft ground at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery where an assumed pickup ran over five headstones.
Five headstones were run over in Artesian’s Mt. Pleasant Cemetery just in time for Memorial Day this past weekend.
Sanborn County Sheriff Tom Fridley reported the headstones were run over sometime either early Memorial Day morning or late the night before. Tire tracks, big enough to belong to a pickup, were found on ground soft from recent rains.
The vehicle hit the five headstones, which broke loose from their bases, but did not crack. They were able to be temporarily put back into place for the holiday, while awaiting permanent repair.
The Sheriff’s office is investigating but currently has no leads.
