Leonard L. “Jack” Price, 91, of Huron, died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016, at Prairie View Healthcare Community in Woonsocket.
His funeral service was Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the American Lutheran Church in Huron, followed by military honors by the Wolsey American Legion Post #59 and a luncheon in the church fellowship hall. Burial was in the Wilmot Cemetery at Wilmot. Visitation was Tuesday, Oct. 4 at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Jack was born July 8, 1925, at Hitchcock to Jacob and Bertha (Glaze) Price. He attended school at Nunda until the sixth grade when the family moved to Wyoming. He continued his education at the Maxon and Logan Schools at the Ramsey Ranch near Rock Springs, Wyo., through the eighth grade.
Jack served in WWII, was in the American Legion for over 70 years and was currently a member of the Hershmen/Gordon Post #59 in Wolsey. He was also a past member of the Wolsey Lions Club. After his discharge from the Army, Jack returned to the Huron area where he obtained his GED in 1946 and ran Jack’s Delivery Service.
He married C. Maxine Binger on May 2, 1948, in Tulare. They farmed in the area and later moved into town where Jack worked at the gas station and for Dan Dugan Transport Company. They were later divorced.
Jack married Mavis (Olson) Ruedebusch on July 31, 1971, in Huron He continued to work as a truck driver until he retired after 21 years.
He enjoyed horses, camping, spending time with family and friends, traveling the U.S. and Europe and wintering in Quartzsite, Ariz., for over 20 years.
He is survived by his children, Larry (Rita) Price of Redfield, Jerol (Kathy) Price of Hartford, Glenda (Kevin) Meyer of Watertown, Paulette Church of Yulee, Fla., Douglas (Marlene) Price of Sundance, Wyo., Karma (Doug) Schiltz of Wolsey, Jeanna (Jesse) Wirth of Williams Bay, Wis., Nancy (Greg) Larsen of Marion, Jim (Brenda) Ruedebusch of Huron, Steven (Nelly) Ruedebusch of Omaha, Neb., Connie (Allen) Williams of Wolsey, David Ruedebusch of Huron, Drew (Patty) Ruedebusch of Mobridge, Lisa (Keith) Beck of Mitchell, and Mark (Sherri) Ruedebusch of Colton; two sisters, Rosella Blunk of Green River, Wyo., and Jean Skarin of Redfield; two sisters-in-law, Luella Price of Mesquite, Nev., and Alice (Bruce) MacNeil of Huron; one brother-in-law, Don Olson of Castlewood; 42 grandchildren; and 69 great-grandchildren.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Mavis in 2014; his parents, Jacob and Bertha Price; four brothers, Charles “Chuck”, Harland “Short”, Donald “Don”, and Elwood “Sweed” Price; one sister, Marcella Kopp; and one grandson, Bruce Bausch.
