Firefighters from Woonsocket and Wessington Springs responded to a storage building fire late Monday night seven miles southwest of Woonsocket, near Twin Lakes State Recreation Area.
By the time firefighters got to the scene, the structure was fully engulfed in flames. The 4,400-square-foot building contained miscellaneous items of little value, but one section of the structure housed chemicals, which firefighters later determined to be of little risk. The building was located on land owned by Steven Wolter and was almost completely destroyed., according to Woonsocket Fire Chief Travis Coulthard.
The cause of the fire is unknown but is not under investigation.

Stephen Simon, 29, of Woonsocket, was indicted and pleaded not guilty in Sanborn County Court Monday, May 22, to one count of third degree rape.
The incident allegedly occurred April 9 in Sanborn County. Court documents charge Simon with having sex with an adult woman “who was incapable of giving consent because of physical incapacity,” or “who was incapable of giving consent because of an intoxicating agent.”
Third-degree rape is a Class 2 felony, punishable upon conviction by up to 25 years in prison and a $50,000 fine. No further court dates have been scheduled according to court documents.

A Woonsocket man was arrested Thursday, May 25, at his home in Woonsocket for possession of a controlled substance.
Karlo Kesary was taken into custody from his home on Woonsocket’s four-lane highway at 314 E. 7th St. that Thursday afternoon. He later posted bond and is currently out on his own recognizance.
Assisting in the arrest and investigation are the Sanborn County Sheriff’s Department, the Hanson County Sheriff’s Department, the James Valley Drug Task Force and the SD Highway Patrol.
No other information was immediately available.
