The regular meeting of Unit 29 American Legion Auxiliary met on June 6, at 6:30 p.m. President Dawn Rassel led the opening ceremonies. Judy Stenzel, chaplain, led the opening prayer.
Mary Key Regynski read the minutes of the May meeting, and Barb Maurice gave the treasurer’s report. Both were approved as given. No bills were presented for payment. Membership is now 75 members.
A report was given on the Poppy Day receipts. A thank you will be published for the help of the 4-H club members and parents.
The June newsletter was read from Linda Holmes, District 6 president. The South Dakota Department Convention will be held from June 15-18 in Watertown.
A slate of officers was presented, and with no other nominations, the slate was accepted. Officers for the 2017-18 year are: president, Dawn Rassel; first vice president, Lynn Brueske; second vice president, Jo White; secretary, Mary Kay Regynski; treasurer, Barb Maurice; historian, Mary Kay Regynski; chaplain, Judy Stenzel; and sergeant at arms, Carrie Howard.
Plans were discussed for the Bingo to be held at the community center on the Fourth of July from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
A memorial service was held for deceased members this year. Deceased members for 2016-17 remembered were Evelyn Hjelm, Ruth Dankey, Ethel Klitzke and Marguerite Kilcoin.
The next meeting will be on Sept. 5, at 6:30 p.m.
With no further business, President Dawn Rassel adjourned the meeting.

Eugene obit pic 45    Eugene Tunney Meyers, 89, of Mitchell, formerly of Huron, passed away Sunday, June 25, 2017, at the Firesteel Healthcare Community in Mitchell.
His funeral was Wednesday, June 28, at the Welter Funeral Home with burial in Restlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Huron. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Wednesday.
Eugene Tunney Meyers, the son of Andrew T. and Matilda (Freese) Meyers, was born Feb. 28, 1928, in Wessington. He was baptized at the American Lutheran Church. Eugene lived on the family farm near Wessington and attended rural schools in the area before moving to Huron in 1940. He worked for the Armour Meatpacking Company until 1968, and then worked on the family farm and was a painter.
Gene married LaVonne Shepard in 1949, and to this union four children were born. He later married Clara Flesner on July 18, 1986, in Galeton, Colo.
Eugene loved to be outdoors hunting, fishing and gardening. He especially enjoyed the many years of goose hunting near Pierre with family and friends, the many hours feeding the birds and squirrels, and playing with his pet dogs and cats.
He is survived by his four children: Cindy (Butch) Rathjen of Huron, Gene (J.D.) Meyers of Woonsocket, Rosemarie (John) Delvaux of Woonsocket, and Harold (Clara) Meyers of Dalhart, Texas; step-daughter, Carol (Ronald) Liebnow of Huron; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great- great-grandchildren; brother, Lyle (Donna) Meyers of Huron; sisters-in-law, Mary and Karen Meyers; brother-in-law, Harold Owens; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Clara; brothers: Bernard (Marie), Ernest, Frank (Evelyn), George (Eleanor), Alva, and Arthur Meyers; sisters: Angeline (Johnny) Forbes, Lucille (Joe) Maunders, and Gladyce Owens; nephew, Doug Johnson; and niece, Jeannie Atchley.

Ruth obit pic 45    Phyllis Ruth, 85, of Mitchell, died Monday, June 19, 2017, at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls.
Funeral services were Thursday, June 22, at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Mitchell, with burial in the Servicemen’s Memorial Cemetery. Visitation, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, was Wednesday, June 21, from 5-7 p.m. at the Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Phyllis Ann Ruth was born Nov. 19, 1931, at Portsmouth, Ohio, to Richard and Emma Roe.
On May 14, 1951, she married Bob Dean Ruth at Catlettsburg, Ky. She received her bachelor of arts in education degree from Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell in 1978. From 1978-1980, she was a teacher at Artesian, and from 1981-1994, she taught at Mitchell High School. After she retired, she taught at Mitchell Christian School.
Phyllis was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Gideon International, and the Mitchell Area Retired Teacher’s Association.
She is survived by four children: Peggy (Waite) Weeks of Jefferson, Maine; Deb (Tom) Bell of Alexandria; Cindy (Dan) Schneider of Mitchell; and Michael Ruth of Iroquois; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her parents; and her four siblings.
Memorials are preferred to Gideon International.
