The Union Farmhands met Sunday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. at the 4-H building.
The meeting was called to order by President Catherine Bechen.
The following members answered roll call, Wiley and Ladoux Bracha, Catherine Bechen, Austin Schmit, Sawyer and Aubrey Senska, Amber, Dana and Alex Schelske and Kadyn and Avery Turner.
Sawyer Senska read the secretary’s report. It was approved with a motion by Alex Schelske and a second from Schmit.
Amber Schelske read the treasurer’s report. It was approved with a motion by Kadyn Turner and a second from Bechen.
Old Business: The new T-shirts were handed out.
Receipts were turned in and approved for the T-shirts and candy for the Melon Festival.
Members discussed the State Fair. Everyone did well.
New business: 4-H books are due Oct. 2.
Members voted to do the community calendar again this year.
Demonstrations and illustrated talks were presented: Alex Schelske – How to aim a bow and arrow; Ladoux Bracha – How to make fudge; Sawyer Senska – How to make a metal flower using old tractor parts; Katie Schmit – How to make a stencil wall hanging; Austin Schmit – How to make a paper towel holder using old horse shoes and chain; Amber Schelske – How to field clean a gun; Dana Schleske – photo taking; Kadyn Turner – Making slime.
A motion to adjourn was made by Alex, with a second by Katie.

The Blackhawks cross country team participated in the Mount Vernon/Plankinton meet held a Fish Lake Golf Course recently, and did well.
Results were as follows: varsity girls—Trinity Boschee, sixth, and Elllie Von Eye, seventh; varsity boys—Spens Schlicht, third, Austin Schmit, fifth, and Braxton Gentles, 13th; junior varsity girls—Hannah Terkildsen, first; junior high girls—Bella Fry, seventh; and junior high boys—Gabe Boschee, ninth.

The Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central Blackhawks improved to 4-1 on the season with a 26-13 victory over the Chamberlain Cubs on Friday evening.
The Blackhawks scored in the first five minutes on an 11-yard run by John Witte. Chamberlain also scored and took the lead (7-6) with three minutes left in the first quarter, but WWSSC answered with a score on a three-yard run, again by Witte. The two-point conversion was successful on a pass from Trent Kingsbury to Noah Dickson, and the score was 14-7 after one quarter of play.
With four minutes remaining in the first half, the Blackhawks increased the lead to 20-7 when Witte scored on a nine-yard touchdown run. Chamberlain put together a drive, making their way inside the 10-yard line, but the WWSSC caused a fumble, and Eric Ruml made the recovery for the Hawks.
In the third quarter, the Blackhawks did not score, but controlled the ball the entire time.
Early in the fourth, Witte ran in a touchdown from 45 yards to make the score 26-7. Chamberlain scored as time expired to make the final 26-13.
Witte led the offense with 185 yards rushing on 30 carries and four touchdown runs. Kingsbury was 10 of 16 passing for 108 yards, and Wesley Linke had three catches for 60 yards.
Logan Wolter led the defense with six tackles, and Aiden Wormstadt and Trey Weber each had an interception.
The win puts the Blackhawks at 3-0 in the SESD Conference with two conference games left and three games remaining overall.
Next up for the Blackhawks is a home game at Sanborn Central versus Stanley County on Friday night.
