Darleen B. Moody, 87, of Woonsocket, and formerly of Letcher, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at Prairie View Healthcare Community in Woonsocket.
Her funeral Mass was Tuesday, July 25, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Wilfrid Catholic Church in Woonsocket, with Fr. Jim Fried-rich officiating. Burial was in St. Scholastica Catholic Cemetery in Letcher. Visitation and a scripture service were held Monday, July 24, at 6:30 p.m., also at the church.
Darleen Beverly Moody was born Sept. 27, 1929, to Gene and Josephine (Willard) Glenn at Artesian. She attended Sanborn County schools.
She married Lawrence Moody at Letcher on Nov. 2, 1946, and they farmed south of Artesian until the spring of 1962. Lawrence passed away on May 2, 2002, and Darlene remained on the farm until November of 2007, when she moved to the Letcher Villa. On Feb. 1, 2002, she moved into the Woonsocket apartments.
Darlene was a 30-year member of Sanborn County Extension Homemakers Club until they disbanded. She was a member of St. Scholastica Catholic Church and Altar Society until it closed. Then, she became a member of St. Wilfrid Catholic Church in Woonsocket. She was also a member of the Letcher and Woonsocket Senior Citizens. Darleen enjoyed going to events that her children and grandchildren participated in. She also enjoyed all family gatherings, especially the large ones at Christmas time.
Darlene is survived by her five children: Mike (Margaret), Jerry and Joe Moody, all of Woonsocket, Dennis Moody of Letcher, and Mary Collins of Woonsocket; 17 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 33 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Delaine (Karen) Glenn of Bullhead City, Ariz.; brother-in-law, Bob Cross of Pierre; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lawrence; brother, Tom; son-in-law, Lyle Collins; and special friend, Connie.
Arrangements were with Basham Funeral Service in Woonsocket.
