Donald Wetzel, 75, of Wessington Springs, died Thursday, July 27, 2017, as the result of an automobile accident.
His memorial service was Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the Foothills Bible Fellowship Church in Wessington Springs with Rev. Scott Spiehs and Rev. Richard Weeman officiating. Inurnment was in Prospect Hill Cemetery. A memorial visitation was Monday, July 31, at the church with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Don was born Nov. 21, 1941, in Jerauld County, the son of Leonard and Leona (Goergen) Wetzel. He graduated from Wessington Springs High School in 1959. He was the third generation of Wetzel House Moving.
He was united in marriage to Janece Klitzke on May 7, 1961, and to this union, three boys were born, Bryan, Keith and Mark.
Don was an avid hunter who loved his family, and he was so proud of his three sons, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He loved hunting, watching sports and going to watch his grandkids play sports. When the boys were older, they always went hunting with their dad, and when the grandchildren were old enough, they would go to work and hunting with Grandpa. They spent many good times at their cabin on hunting trips.
Don was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. He was very active in the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation of Mitchell.
He is survived by his wife, Janece of Wessington Springs; his three sons, Bryan (Tammy) of Lane, Keith (Jenny) of Rapid City, and Mark of Pierre; five grandchildren, including Amy (Kyle) Everson of Woonsocket; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Leona; a brother, Duane; and a grandson, Matthew.
