Judy Louise Hunter, 69, of Forestburg, died Monday, June 12, 2017, at Avera Queen of Peace ER in Mitchell.
Funeral services were Monday, June 19, at 11 a.m., at Forestburg Lutheran Church, with burial in Silver Creek Cemetery in rural Forestburg. Visitation was 2-5 p.m., Sunday, June 18, at the Will Funeral Chapel.
Judy Hunter, daughter of Ernest and Gladys (Fouberg) Nurnberg, was born Nov. 12, 1947, in Mitchell. She grew up on the family farm near Forestburg. Judy attended school in Forestburg, graduating from Forestburg High School in 1966. After her schooling, she was employed sewing parachutes at Raven Industries in Huron.
Judy was united in marriage with Dwight Hunter on May 5, 1968, at Forestburg Lutheran Church in Forestburg. The couple lived in Forestburg, and Judy continued working at Raven for a short time. She then was a homemaker and raised their children. When the children got older, she began working at Van Dykes in Woonsocket. From 1975 to 1986, the couple lived in the Brookings area. While in Brookings, Judy ran the family upholstery shop. In 1986, the couple returned to Forestburg, and Judy continued her work at Van Dykes. The family moved to Marshall, Minn., for a year, where she was employed at a music store. After a year, they returned to Forestburg. Judy later was employed at Walmart in Mitchell for 11 years. She retired at the age of 65.
Judy was a member of Forestburg Lutheran Church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and sewing.
She is survived by her husband, Dwight Hunter of Forestburg; her four children, Dan (Robin) Hunter of Forestburg, Steve (Laura) Hunter of Marion, Teresa (Tom) Moudry of San Diego, Calif., and Jeremy (Kristin) Hunter of Toronto; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, plus one due in August; and a brother, Dennis Nurnberg of Forestburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Doug Nurnberg.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Judy’s name. Memorials may be mailed to 210 East Green Drive, Mitchell.
