An iconic Woonsocket building was razed Monday morning after it was declared a nuisance by the City Council.
The building was two separate properties, which once held a grocery store, hardware store and the Masons Lodge. The structure has been unoccupied for many years and had fallen into serious disrepair.
It had been declared condemned and when pieces of the north building began falling into the adjacent alley, the City of Woonsocket was forced to act in the interest of public safety.
Demolition was hired through the City of Woonsocket and will be billed to the building’s owners. Feistner Excavation was contracted to raze the structure. They were assisted by the Woonsocket Fire Department.
