With the loss of three seniors, who all played major roles for the girls basketball team last season, the Lady Blackhawks have a little re-grouping to do this year. Tristan Ziebart, Abby Doering and Megan Poyer are returning starters, who contributed immensely last year for the team and ended their season with an incredible second place finish in the 2017 State Tournament.
Other returning contributors are Sarah Morgan, Tesa Jensen, Erica Howard, Abby Vermeulen, Madi Moody, Alissa Ball and Kaylee White.
The team looks forward to a great season with newcomers helping to contribute to their success, along with the awesome community support they’ve received in the past.
The Lady Blackhawks are coached by Head Coach Tim McCain, Assistant Coaches Sarah Swenson and Robin Moody, and Junior High Coach Emily Henriksen.

The SCW boys basketball team lost four seniors to graduation from last year’s team, which had a record of 15-7 and lost in the District finals to Wolsey-Wessington.
“Our team is very motivated to have another successful season,” says Head Coach Rod Weber. “Our main goals remain at a high level, and we will work hard to achieve all of them.”
Some key players who played considerable minutes on the varsity squad last year include:
Trent Kingsbury, who averaged seven points and six rebounds per game. Kingsbury also set a school record last year for assists with 158. According to Weber, “Trent has very good floor vision and is a great floor leader in running the fast break and our offensive sets;
Trey Weber, who averaged 12 points and four assists per game. Weber set school records for most three-pointers in a game (nine) and the most in a season (62). “Trey is a good ball handler and shot 39 percent beyond the arc last year. Trent and Trey will both have to provide leadership in the upcoming season,” says Coach Weber;
Noah Dickson, who averaged five points and two rebounds per game as a freshman last year. Coach Weber states, “Noah made an impact last season off the bench and will look to be a starter this season.”
According to Coach Weber, the Blackhawks’ senior leadership, which will also include Jared Goldammer and Devon Weber, and the type of impact the younger players can deliver, will be the keys to success this year.
The boys basketball team is coached by Head Coach Rod Weber, Assistant Coaches Rick Olsen and Matt Henriksen, Volunteer Student Assistant Coach Tucker Kingsbury, and Junior High Coach Craig Lieber.

The staff at Prairie View Healthcare Community is again sponsoring their annual Giving Tree in the solarium of their facility to help the residents enjoy a Merry Christmas.
Cards decorate the tree, which include the name of a resident and a wish list for that resident. Clothing items, craft supplies and personal care items are some of the things listed.
Those wanting to share the spirit of Christmas with PVHC residents are asked to retrieve a card from the tree and notify Janet Baysinger or Gloria Klaas whose card they have. Gifts need to be wrapped and returned to Prairie View before Dec. 20.
