Over 80 students were nominated to perform in an honor band in Gregory on Nov. 27.
Pictured, left to right, Carter Linke, Kadin Schlenker, Josie Weber, Andrew Lindgren and Nathan Linke of Woonsocket High School were selected to perform with the honor band.
They spent the entire day practicing the music with the guest conductor, Dr. Haley Armstrong, the Director of Bands at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology. After a full day of rehearsing, they performed a concert with six pieces.

Abby Doering led the Lady Blackhawks with 16 points and 14 rebounds, to a 67-51 victory over Sunshine Bible Academy during the basketball double header on Saturday, Dec. 9. She was helped by Tesa Jensen with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Tristan Ziebart added 13 points with eight assists and four steals. Megan Poyer had seven points, five rebounds, and seven assists. Sarah Morgan came through with seven points and four assists, and Madi Moody threw in six points.
SBA was led by Susan Wilken with 19 points and her sister Lindsey Wilken, who added 17 points.
On the boys’ side of play, four players reached double figures in points to lead the SCW Blackhawks to a 79-39 win over the Crusaders. Trey Weber led in scoring with 19 points, and Trent Kingsbury followed with 13. Kingsbury also contributed ten assists with five steals and five rebounds, while Weber added eight assists and five rebounds. Jared Goldammer scored 15 points and 11 rebounds. Devon Weber put in 11 points.
The Crusaders were led by Jade Burma with 18 points and 12 rebounds, along with Ross Engle who added 11 points.
The Lady Blackhawks don’t see action again until Dec. 19 when the boys and girls have a doubleheader at Sanborn Central with Mt. Vernon/Plankinton. However, the boys have their next game this Thursday night, Dec. 14, in Woonsocket against the Tripp-Delmont/Armour Nighthawks.

The Wessington Springs/Woonsocket Blackhawks traveled to Gregory on Saturday, Dec. 9, for a 13-team varsity tournament. They came home with five team members placing. The results are as follows: Camden Jost, fifth at 120 pounds; Tyler Eddy, fourth at 160 pounds; Luke Knipfer, fifth at 170; John Witte, second at 182; and Collin Schmiedt, fifth at 220.
The next action for the Blackhawk wrestlers is the two-day Hot Springs Invitational in Hot Springs this weekend Dec. 15-16.
