TRISHA GATES and Tasha Hagmann give a cheers as they enjoy tasting new wine flavors Friday evening.

To help their customers get into the holiday spirit, Jeff and Cara Poyer, owners of Skeeters, a local restaurant and lounge, held a wine tasting event entitled “Pop the Cork,” on Friday, Nov. 17.
The Poyers invited EJ Johnson, a sales representative from Republic National Distributing, to provide 21 flavors of wine for customers to taste and decide which wine they liked best. The cost to take part in this event was $30 in advance or $35 at the door and included wine tasting of any or all flavors, an authentic Riedel Crystal wine glass, cheese, crackers and chislic for a two-hour time span.
According to Mr. Johnson, the most popular wines of the night were the sweet wines. The Roscato red wine and any of the Stella Rosa brand wines were those that most of the event goers chose to taste more than once.
All the wines on display for tasting during the event are stocked at the Poyers’ North 40 Convenience Store. Event attendees were given the opportunity to purchase any of the wines on the list at a discounted price. The Poyers hope to make this an annual event.
