Six members of Hope Circle met at 5:30 p.m. at Prairie View Healthcare Community on Nov. 7. Attending were Vicki Linke, Vickie Hines, Barb Coulthard, JoAnn Schladweiler, Evelyn Mitzel and Sue Larson. Barb Coulthard was the hostess and provided the meal.
Barb Coulthard read devotions from “The Word in Season” prior to Chairman Vicki Linke calling the meeting to order. Sue Larson, recorder/treasurer, read the previous minutes and gave the financial report.
Vicki Linke reported that she had delivered a quilt made by the mission quilting ladies, plus a bag filled with travel-size toiletries to the women’s safehouse in Mitchell.
A get well card was signed by all for Casey Miller, as she is recovering from surgery.
Old Business: Discussion was held on the annual candy tray sale. It was decided to have a bakeless fundraiser with monetary donations. Since so many of the Thrivent members are using the $250 Action Team Event, many projects have been accomplished. Vicki Linke is currently using one of these programs to purchase fabric for a quilt for high school graduate, Abby Doering.
New Business: The Mission Quilting Group will meet for two more sessions this year – Nov. 16 and Dec. 7.
It was decided to offer the December Bible study from the “Gather” magazine at Prairie View Healthcare Community on Dec. 5 at 3 p.m. Circle members will bring goodies to share with the residents. The regular December Hope Circle meeting will be in the home of Sue Larson on Dec. 14 at 5:30 p.m. Care baskets will be prepared and secret prayer sisters revealed with a gift exchange.
The Community Choir will present their Christmas Cantata, “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” on Nov. 19 in the Community Center at 5 p.m. An item for the Food Pantry will be accepted as admission, and a potluck meal will follow. The choir will also perform the cantata on Monday, Nov. 20 at PVHC at 7 p.m.
The Bible study was entitled, “The Apostles Creed, Session 3: I Believe in the Holy Spirit,” with John 20:24-31 as the Bible text. Residents joining the study were Phyl Manke, Myrna Hjelm, Alice Baruth, Babe Larson, Ruth Berg and Patti Knigge.
Prayers were requested for Casey Miller, Cathy Hegg and Jacki Aymar’s grandson, Rowan.
Nine “Operation Christmas Child” shoeboxes were packed and will be delivered to Living Hope Alliance Church in Huron, which is the collection site for this area.
Sue Larson finished 10 flannel wildlife prayer pillows for veterans and brought them to show before they go to the American Legion Auxiliary for distribution.

The Letcher American Legion held their annual Veterans Day potluck supper on Sunday at the Community Center. A nice-sized crowd was there with lots of good food.
After supper a short program was held with Karen Hoffman giving a reading and talking about memories of her family and their long military history. Tom Johnson entertained the group with several songs and stories. Auxiliary President Sandi Ruml gave a history of the American Legion and the programs that it supports.
Pictured are, left to right, Donnie Moe, 89, an Army Korean War Veteran, and Jim Evers, 95, a WWII Navy Veteran, honored for their long Legion membership and their service. Lyle Pence is the only other WWII veteran alive from the Tormey-Stach Legion.
