Randall “Randy” Baysinger, 59, of rural Woonsocket, passed away suddenly Friday, April 28, 2017, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were Tuesday, May 2, at St. Wilfrid Catholic Church with Rev. Don Grubb officiating. Burial was in Eventide Cemetery with military rites by the Woonsocket American Legion. Visitation was Monday, May 1, at the Basham Funeral Home in Woonsocket, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Randy was born June 7, 1957, in Mitchell to Dan and Lila Baysinger. He attended Woonsocket School and then began his career raising watermelons alongside his parents, grandparents, siblings, cousins and friends.
He then moved to the Spearfish area to work for his cousin, Larry Mitchell, in his spraying service. During that time, he met Rochelle Deuschle, and they were married. From this union, two children were born, Shiloh and Alecia. The family moved to the Howard area, where Randy worked for the Powell Ranch for a time. They then moved to Buffalo, where Randy worked for Dave Penn, before moving to Bison, where he worked for the Perkins County Highway Department. He also spent time at Penor’s Texaco and at the Reder Ranch working alongside friends, Ardel and Bob Reder.
In 1988, Randy and Alecia moved back to the Baysinger farm three miles north of Woonsocket, where he started working the melon fields again with his family. He also worked for numerous family and friends when they needed help, especially during harvest time.
Hunting and fishing were his passion, especially with his children and grandchildren.
On July 2, 2016, Randy married Cristina Mallar Silvertree. They made their home on the farm.
Randy is survived by his wife, Cristina; his children, Alecia (Robbie) Schley of Alpena, and Shiloh (Brandi) Baysinger of Bison; three grandchildren; his siblings, Lynell (Pat) Mentele of Woonsocket, Lawrence (Mary Ann) Baysinger of Rapid City, Jerry (Carol) Baysinger of Gillette, Wyo., and Sandy (Dennis) Beckman of Wessington Springs.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
