The New Year started with the Woonsocket Community Club already busy with activities to better the community.
The club will again sponsor the $250 high school service scholarship; they have replaced the flag at the Community Center; and they are gathering household items through March to support the homeless veterans. They are also excited to be funding the purchase and installation of a statue at Lake Prior in late spring because of a generous donation from the family of Della Larson.
Other events the Club sponsors include hosting a December blood drive, planning for the annual city-wide rummage sale, supporting the local Easter egg hunt and 4-H Achievement Days, organizing the city-wide cleanup in May, setting up the nativity scene on the island at Lake Prior, supporting the Sanborn County Food Pantry, bringing Santa to the Courthouse, sponsoring the Christmas Caring Tree, supporting the local theatre addition, and more.
The Club is a very visible force in the community and is proud of the support of all of the members. It is always looking for new ideas or projects to tackle and welcomes thoughts from everyone.
Meetings are held the first Monday of each month from November to June at the Community Center in Woonsocket. Club members are reminded to bring their $10 dues to the next meeting on Feb. 6, at 5:15 p.m., or to send them to Emily George at 39604 227th St. Woonsocket, SD, 57385.
The Club is always looking for new members who would like to get involved in the community and would also like to meet other people in town. You can participate in the club meeting or events as little or as much as you wish. New members have a free membership for the first year to see if the Club is something they feel is worthwhile and effective, so why not attend the next meeting and become part of a fun, community-minded group.
