Chuckles and even bursts of laughter filled the Community Center on Saturday morning, Sept. 8, as Ruby Pattison and Louise Maeschen of Mitchell presented their “Antique Quilts Trunk Show.” For nearly an hour, the ladies who gathered for the Spirit of Faith Lutheran-Methodist Church Women’s benefit were in awe of the beautiful and sometimes comical creations and antics presented by these two very talented women. Sunbonnet Sue, Lone Star, Baltimore Album, butterfly, farmyard, crazy cats, and antique feed sack quilts were among those shown. One appliqued wall-hanging featured two old ladies (closely resembling the women themselves) and read “If we live to be 103, best friends we will always be!”
All the women attending were welcomed prior to the program by the Mistress of Ceremonies, Sue Larson, and were invited to tour the construction site of the new church building afterward.
There were thirty-four Silent Auction items, including Halloween decor, fall and Christmas table runners, a coffee-themed basket, a fancy pail with wine inside, a fabric and notions basket, a John Deere lunch pail filled with candy, a sewing machine music box, two large handmade sofa pillows, and cookbooks to name a few. The bidding war was quite competitive!
Door prizes were awarded and two quilts were raffled. Jennifer Feistner won the polka dot quilt made by the Spirit of Faith Mission Quilters and Kathy Jensen won the red, white and blue wedding ring king-sized quilt with a scalloped-edge border.
The day was surely a treasure of fellowship, laughter, bountiful delicious food, and friendly bidding with all proceeds going toward the new Spirit of Faith Lutheran-Methodist Church construction.
