The Catholic Daughters of the Americas of St. Wilfrid parish held their annual Tour of Tables Saturday, Oct. 6. There were 11 different table settings of heirloom china, dishes and stemware, many holding significant memories for the hostesses of the tables. A sandwich and salad luncheon was served, followed by speakers from the non-profit Anchor of Hope – Haiti.
Missionaries to Haiti, Dennis Scheel from Wessington Springs and his daughter Wendy Denison, gave an informative slide presentation from their previous trips to Haiti. They explained the work that they do while there two weeks every year. They spend most of their time improving a public school that serves hundreds of children a day.
The Quilting for Others group from St Wilfrid provides quilts and handmade children’s clothing for this mission in Haiti and were instrumental in bringing Dennis and Wendy to speak to those attending. They also had a display of jewelry and other items hand-crafted by street vendors in Haiti. Anything sold is returned for 100 percent profit to the craftsmen of Haiti.
