On Thursday, Jan. 11, the Wessington Springs/Woonsocket Blackhawk wrestlers held a quadrangular at home in Wessington Springs. They invited Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes, Howard, and Warner/Northwestern to compete. All wrestlers on the Blackhawks’ roster wrestled well and spectators got to experience a great night of dual action between the four schools attending.
Then on Saturday, Jan. 13, the wrestlers made the long trek to Gettysburg for the 18-team Battler Wrestling Tournament. The five Blackhawks earning a place at this tournament were Camden Jost, fifth at 126 pounds; Quinton Christensen, sixth at 138 pounds; Landon Wolter, fifth at 145 pounds; Tyler Eddy, fifth at 160 pounds; and Riley Stevens, third at 195 pounds.
All the Blackhawks are improving and seeing more success on the mats as the season progresses. Their next action will be Saturday, Jan. 20 at the Arlington Invite in Arlington, starting at 9:30 a.m.
Next Thursday, Jan. 25, the WS/W Blackhawks will host a quadrangular in Woonsocket. This will be the first time Woonsocket has hosted a wrestling event in over 30 years. The teams invited to that event are Sunshine Bible Academy, Lower Brule and Chamberlain. Start time is 6 p.m. and should be an interesting and entertaining event.
