The SCW Blackhawks varsity volleyball team started this year’s season with the Hanson Early Bird Tournament on Tuesday, Aug. 21 and Thursday, Aug. 23. They met up with Gayville-Volin in the first round and lost the first set 18-25, but fought back and won the next two sets with scores of 25-21 and 26-24 to win the whole game and advance to the semi-finals.
Their next game on Tuesday night was against Hanson. Using the momentum from their first win of the night, they sprung into the lead early against the Beavers. The Blackhawks beat the tournament host team in two sets, 25-17 and 25-22, stealing Hanson’s chances at playing in another championship of their own tournament. This was an outstanding win for the Lady Blackhawks as it has been a few years since they have beat Hanson in volleyball, and it put SCW in the championship game on Thursday night.
