Every summer the Woonsocket Public Library takes part in the Summer Reading Program organized by the South Dakota State Library. This year’s theme for the program is “Libraries Rock,” so it was only fitting for the library in Woonsocket to start the program with a pizza party and an opening event of stations related to the theme.
There were approximately 130 people in attendance for the kick-off held at the Woonsocket School on Tuesday, June 5, from 12-2 p.m. Kids attended four stations after enjoying pizza. The four stations and their locations included: learning dance moves in the gym, learning about music rhythms and instruments in the music room, painting rocks in the commons area, and of course, checking out books in the library.
With the help of the members of the Woonsocket Library Advisory Council, many students, and other adult volunteers, the kick off was very successful and encouraging for students from both Woonsocket and Sanborn Central Schools to continue to read and check out books throughout the summer.
