The Sanborn Central School District conducted a school board election as incumbent Justin Enfield was challenged by Andrew Ettswold for Enfield’s seat on the board for a three-year term. Enfield won the election with 64 percent of the vote coming in for him and 36 percent coming in for Ettswold. There was a low 8 percent voter turnout.

Tom Weatherford was recently inducted as a coach along with the 1976 DSU Football SDIC Championship team to the Dakota State Athletic Hall of Fame in Madison. This is Tom’s second  induction as he and the undefeated team of 1977 were inducted in 2012. While there he also coached  women’s basketball and assisted with men’s basketball. He was a guidance counselor and coached on many sports teams while at Williamsburg High school from 1990-2012 when he retired. He and his wife, Jan, live on an acreage in rural Ladora. He is a 1969 graduate of Woonsocket High School.

Sometime in the middle of the night between Monday, June 24 and Tuesday, June 25, vandals broke two of the globes on the lights around Lake Prior in the middle of Woonsocket. One of the light bulbs was removed from the globe. The city maintenance workers were able to piece the globes back together; however, the city can no longer get replacement globes for those lights, so this could have been a catastrophe and is not just a harmless prank.

The Sanborn County Sheriff’s office is investigating the act and would like anyone who has any information about this to please call their office at 796-4511.
