Agnes Peters, 97, of Mitchell and formerly of Stickney, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2019 at Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019 at United Methodist Church in Stickney. Burial was at Dudley Cemetery in rural Stickney. A visitation with prayer service was held Friday, Sept. 27 at Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.
Agnes Borghild Fristad was born Aug. 21, 1922 to Reinert R. and Olivina (Carlson) Fristad in a farmhouse near Storla. Her parents were both Norwegian emigrants. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Agnes attended country grade school near Storla and two years of high school in Letcher.
She worked for a time in Mitchell and married Elmer Peters on Jan. 16, 1945. She taught Sunday school and was active in her church. Children born to them included Wenton, Denise, Mark, Jeff and Tim. She loved flowers, especially red roses. There was always a cake or cookies for unexpected guests.
While at Firesteel, Agnes developed friendships with many staff. She especially enjoyed playing Bingo, word find books, writing letters, embroidery, company and watching the Minnesota Twins.
Agnes is survived by her children, Denise (Leslie) Yule of Bloomfield, Neb., Jeff (Carol) Peters of White Lake, and Tim (Eileen) Peters of Madison; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Peters; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Norma Fristad of Letcher.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; sons, Mark and Wenton Peters; grandson, Eric Yule; and fourteen siblings, Oscar (Pearl) Fristad, Bessie Arens, Richard (Lelia) Fristad, Annie (Alfred) Podhradsky, Clara Fristad, Rose (Fred) Feistner, Ida (Alfred) Feistner, Selma (Ernest) Feistner, Eddie (Alverna) Fristad, Mandus Fristad, Palma (George) Lundberg, Melvin (Marie) Fristad and Violet (Robert) Moline.
