Alice Joy, 86, of Huron, passed away Sunday, Nov. 17, 2019, at Avantara in Redfield.
Her funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 22, at the Kuhler Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Kuhler Funeral Home.
Alice Grace Stanfield was born Jan. 5, 1933, to Dean and Grace (Butts) Stanfield at Artesian. She attended and graduated from Artesian High School. Soon after high school, Alice was employed at Northwest Bell, where she was a telephone operator until retiring in 1989.
On Nov. 30, 1956, Alice married James R. Joy. They made their home at Huron, and together, they raised their four children. Alice loved collecting lighthouses, gardening, canning and spending time with children.
Alice is survived by her children, Patricia (Greg) Hochhalter of Glendive, Mont., Dennis (Brenda) Joy of Aberdeen, Peggy (Kevin) Reder of Duluth, Minn., and Kristi (Jason) Orelup of Rapid City; ten grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Seter of Boise, Idaho, Janet Bobeldyke of Huron and Donna Stanfield of Spearfish.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, James; her parents; and five siblings, Eldon, Ralph, Bruce and Robert Stanfield and Helen Estes.
