The annual 4-H Special Foods Contest was held recently on May 29 at the 4-H Building in Forestburg. Ten 4-Hers spent the day showcasing their culinary talents. Judging the contest this year were Margo Edwards and Maria Feldhaus, 4-H Youth Program Advisor for Miner County.
This unique contest gives the youth a chance to prepare a recipe from any of the five food groups. 4-Hers are challenged to learn about nutrition, prepare a menu, set up an attractive place setting, use proper food safety procedures and be judged on the final food product. Youth are allowed a total of 90 minutes to prepare the recipe, complete a place setting and interview with the nutrition judge.
Results for the 2019 Special Foods Contest and the special dishes prepared:
Purple: Wyatt Arhart – All-Star Pork Meatballs, Hope Baysinger – Egg Bake Cups, Shay Bechen – Strawberry Banana Smoothie, Lane Burkel – Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza, Victoria Hoffman – Egg Bake, Brooklyn Larson – Strawberry Surprise Smoothie, Memphis Moody – Surprise Smoothie, Elisha Schultz – Vegetable Lo Mein, Isaiah Schultz – Moo Shu Vegetables, Cole Wilson – Peanut Butter Protein Delight
