Perpetrator chased on foot by local business owner

Jeff Pomerico of Huron was apprehended and taken into custody by Sanborn County Sheriff Tom Fridley on Monday, June 3, just after he had tried to escape by running into Woonsocket’s Lake Prior.

Monday morning brought some excitement to Main Street in Woonsocket. At around 9:30 a.m., Jeff Pomerico and a friend of his, both of Huron, entered the N40 Convenience Store to play video lottery. Pomerico wrote a check for $100 cash, and started to play in the casino area. N40 Co-owner, Cara Poyer, noticed that the name of the checking account was not the name the man signed on the check, so she had her husband, co-owner, Jeff Poyer, look into the account. It was, in fact, a check from a closed account. Poyer then called the sheriff to come to his establishment and handle the situation.
