SCW girls’ basketball splits games on the road

Megan Poyer starts every game with the jump ball and gives the Blackhawks a good chance at starting each game with the first possession. Poyer tied the school record of 19 rebounds in a single game during the girl’s game against St. Francis.

On their first day back from Christmas break, the Blackhawks traveled to Howard for a doubleheader on Thursday, Jan. 3. The junior varsity had an easy win with a final score of 35-18, but the varsity ended up losing a tough battle with a good Howard team. The score at the end of the buzzer for that game was Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 51, Howard 56.

The Lady Blackhawks were invited to take part in the Redfield Classic again this year. This year they were matched up with St. Francis, and the fast-paced game provided a chance for a high-scoring game for the Blackhawks. They came out with a victory and a final score of 74-62.

The girls are now 4-3 on the season. Their next action on the court was on Tuesday, Jan. 8 in Woonsocket against Kimball/White Lake. Results of that game will be in next week’s issue. On Friday, Jan. 11, they play their first game in this year’s 281 Conference Tournament where they are seeded first. Their first round game is against Iroquois and starts at 3:30 p.m. in Wolsey. The tournament will continue through next week.
