The Woonsocket American Legion Post 29, along with the Legion Auxiliary, is committed to mentoring youth and sponsoring wholesome programs in our communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to our fellow service members and veterans.
The American Legion celebrates 100 years in 2019! Your American Legion Post 29 was chartered on July 15, 1919. The organization as a whole traces its roots to March 15-17, 1919, in Paris, France, in the aftermath of World War I. The American Legion was federally chartered on Sept. 16, 1919, and quickly became an influential force at the national, state and local levels, dedicated to service to veterans, strong national defense, youth and patriotism.
With the upcoming celebration of Veteran’s Day, we wanted to take the time to highlight some of the activities and services that your local post offers. A special opportunity each year is visiting the sixth grade class to teach the students proper flag etiquette and flag folding. We are honored to participate in the annual Veteran’s Day program at Woonsocket School.
