On Monday, Nov. 25, the third-grade class at Woonsocket Elementary performed their own balloon parade. They had been studying the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and learning all about the preparation and the manpower needed to have all the balloons in that parade, and so they decided to celebrate with their own parade.
Each third grader decided on one of their favorite characters to make a balloon replica. They chose from characters in books, cartoons, video games and movies. They then found the balloons they needed to decorate and portray their character correctly and attached string to their parade entry.
When they were finished, the rest of the students in pre-K through sixth grade lined both sides of the main hallway in the elementary building to watch the parade. Each student wore a sign around their neck to state which character their balloon portrayed. They paraded down the hall twice for everyone to see their wonderful creations.
