On Friday, Nov. 1, the Woonsocket third grade class visited the high school science classroom to explore science concepts with the Woonsocket High School biology students. When Mrs. Jessica Bruce arrived with her third grade students, the science teacher, Mr. Mitch Korbel, and the biology students were ready with four science exploration stations. In one station, third graders created carbon dioxide gas using vinegar and baking soda to blow up a balloon. In the next station students learned that acetone melts Styrofoam. In a third station, students created and played with the non-newtonian fluid Oobleck. In the fourth station, students made slime from borax and glue. At each station, Mrs. Bruce asked that the third graders propose a hypothesis (or educated guess) as to what was going to happen during the experiment.
