NOTICE OF HEARING ON

PETITION FOR APPOINTMENT

OF CONSERVATOR

TO: Eugene Prins, a person Alleged to Need Protection; next of kin and other interested persons:

An Amended Petition has been filed by Patricia Scholtes and requesting the appointment of Patricia Scholtes as Conservator of Eugene Prins. The Amended Petition alleges that on the evening of March 26, 2020, in rural Sanborn County, South Dakota, Eugene Prins went missing. Despite several searches of the area in which he was last seen, he has not been located. There has been no communication from him since, nor has his property or his bank account been used in any way. It is very necessary after six month time that a conservator be appointed to handle his financial affairs and care for his property.

If Eugene Prins is determined to be an absentee as alleged in the Amended Petition, a conservator may be appointed on Eugene Prins’s behalf. If a conservator is appointed, the conservator may be given the right to regulate certain or all of Eugene Prins’s activities and financial needs.

The Amended Petition will be heard before the undersigned Judge in the Court Room at the Sanborn County Court House in Woonsocket, South Dakota, on the third day of December, 2020, at 9:30 o’clock a.m.

The person alleged to need protection has the right to attend this hearing, to oppose the appointment of a conservator, to demand a jury trial, to present evidence, to compel the attendance of witnesses, and to confront and cross-examine all witnesses. The person alleged to need protection has the right to be represented by an attorney of his own choice or to an attorney appointed by the Court upon his request.

An attorney has not been appointed to represent the person alleged to need protection.

Other persons interested in these proceedings may apply for permission to participate at the hearing. Participation will be allowed if it appears that it is in the best interests of the person alleged to need protection.

Dated this 20th day of October, 2020.

Last week’s volleyball schedule found the SCW Lady Blackhawks up against some strong opponents. On Tuesday, Oct. 20, SCW welcomed Hitchcock-Tulare to Woonsocket. The night started with a junior high game, where SCW suffered a loss in three sets with set scores of 10-25, 13-25 and 6-15. The junior high girls were followed by the junior varsity, who won their match in two sets with set scores of 25-17 and 25-16.

The varsity played the final game of the night. SCW worked hard against a tough Patriots team, but they ended with a loss in three sets with scores of 17-25, 16-25 and 15-25.

The Lady Blackhawks saw their next competition on Friday, Oct. 23 when they hosted the Bridgewater-Emery Huskies at Sanborn Central. Because the weather caused the football game to be rescheduled to Friday evening, the only volleyball games that were played were junior varsity and varsity. The JV girls won their match in two sets with scores of 25-17 and 25-14.

The varsity game was another tough one for the SCW girls. It appeared as though they were going to come alive in the second and third sets, but they just couldn’t hold on long enough to bring out the win. They lost to the Huskies in three sets with scores of 13-25, 23-25 and 22-25.

SCW falls to 7-12 on the season. This week brings them to the end of regular season play with a rescheduled game in Howard on Monday, Oct. 26 and their last regular-season game in Plankinton against the Mt. Vernon/Plankinton Titans on Tuesday, Oct. 27.

The post season tournaments start with Regions on Nov. 2 and will continue from there in Madison.

The Pre-K through eighth grade students of Sanborn Central were entertained on Wednesday, Oct. 21, with a few visiting animals from the Great Plains Zoo in Sioux Falls.

The friendly zookeeper, Emily, brought some of her friends from the zoo to teach the students about different animals and their habitats. She brought a chinchilla, a kestrel, which is the smallest type of falcon, an Indian stone tortoise and a prehensile tailed skunk. Emily spoke to the students about what each of the animals eat, where they live, and some unique characteristics of each animal. The students were allowed to ask questions about each animal while Emily had them on display. At the end of the presentation, the students were allowed to pet the chinchilla.

It was nice for the students to have someone come to the school and bring something different for them to experience during such a difficult time for people to travel and congregate. The students were in groups of two classes at a time, and each one wore a mask. Emily stated that the people at the zoo feel as though this is something that they can still do because they travel alone and keep their distance from the students while wearing a mask in all schools they visit.
