On Tuesday, Dec. 15, the SCW basketball teams traveled to Hitchcock to face the Hitchcock-Tulare Patriots. The night started with the junior varsity girls handling the Patriots quite easily with a final score of 31-17.
Next up was the boys’ junior varsity game. SCW handed the Patriots another loss with a score of 34-29.
The varsity ladies had a tougher battle than the JV, but they fought to the end and brought home the victory and a final score of 43-42.
The final game of the night also went to the Blackhawks with the SCW varsity boys winning 45-34.
Both teams traveled to Corsica on Thursday, Dec. 17 for their second contest of the week. The junior varsity girls started things off again and lost a close one to the Jaguars, 32-36.
The boys’ JV played next, and they also ended with a loss and a final score of SCW 22, Corsica-Stickney 31.
The varsity girls had to take on a tough team from Corsica-Stickney returning from a state-tournament performance last year. SCW worked hard and held their own for a majority of the game, and then the Jaguars pulled ahead and ended the game with a final score of SCW 31, Corsica-Stickney 54.
Both teams saw their final action before Christmas on Tuesday, Dec. 22 against the Mt. Vernon/Plankinton Titans in Mt. Vernon. They will both participate in the Huron Holiday Classic next week. Both teams play Lower Brule. The girls play on Tuesday, Dec. 29 and the boys play on Wednesday, Dec. 30.
