After 22 days off due to weather cancellations of meets, the Sanborn Central/Woonsocket track team competed in the Greenway Relays in Mt. Vernon on April 23. The competition had 20 teams from all three classes represented and was the stiffest competition the Blackhawks will face all season. West Central came away with the boys’ title with 112.5 team points, and Canton finished with 99 points to claim the girls’ title. 

Many personal bests were made by Blackhawk athletes in individual events and relays. The team hopes to keep improving come Thursday when the team travels to Menno for the Erv Ptak Relays.

The following are top eight placings for SCW athletes:

Boys -14th, 10.5 points

400M Relay – fifth place, 48.85 (Braxton Gentles, Hayden Beigh, Brady Larson, Tryce Slykhuis);

1,600M Medley Relay – fifth place, 4:11.70 (Camden Jost, Brady Larson, Braxton Gentles, and Jeff Boschee);

1,600M – eighth place, 4:08.98 (Jeff Boschee, Carter Hitchcock, Clay Olinger, Camden Jost);

High Jump – eighth place, 5’ 2”, Jeff Boschee;

Triple Jump – eighth place, 35’ 9.5”, Cody Slykhuis.

Girls – 15th, six team points

400M – seventh place, 1:07.78, Elizabeth Boschee;

Triple Jump – fifth place, 31’ 4”, Trinity Boschee.

Angie Larson called the meeting to order with Sean Gromer and Angie Meier in attendance. E. Hoffman also attended the meeting. 

A motion was made by Gromer, seconded by Larson, carried, to approve March 15th, 2021, minutes as read.

A motion was made by Larson, seconded by Gromer, carried, to approve the financials as presented.

Old Business: 

K. Stach discussed with the board about the surveillance cameras that were installed at the fire hall/community center. He showed the board members how they work. A motion was made by Chada, seconded by by Gromer, to reimburse K. Stach for the purchase of the surveillance cameras for the fire hall/community center.  

The Board went over the water sample report.  

Discussion was held on past due accounts. Letters have been sent out.  

Chada is going to call to get the asphalt break up on the east end of Main Street fixed.  

Larson is resigning from her position as custodian. An ad will be placed in the paper for a custodian position.  

No application was put in for the maintenance worker position.  The Board will run the ad in the paper for two more weeks.  

The Board is going to be replacing the backboards and hoops at the basketball court at Rossy Park. The 4-H group is looking to replace one and the town will replace one. The town will purchase both and will be reimbursed by the 4-H group. A motion was made by Larson, seconded by Gromer, to purchase both backboards and hoops for Rossy Park.  

New Business: 

Discussion was held on the water sample report.

Discussion was held on when to put the dock in the lake. The Board will work on getting it put back in place.  

An ad was placed in the paper for the custodian position. Larson’s last day is April 30th, 2021.  

An ad was also placed in the paper for the maintenance worker position.  

Discussion was held on who will be attending the Mosquito Workshop on April 22nd in Mitchell at 8:00 a.m. The Board will need to take the ULV unit to the workshop to be calibrated. 

The election will be held on April 13th, 2021. The polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the community center.

Discussion was held on Dumpster Days. They are scheduled for May 5th – May 12th.

Mayor Mark Chada called the special board meeting to order with Angie Larson, Sean Gromer, and Angie Meier in attendance. 

A special board meeting was held on April 14th 2021, to canvass the election.  

Chada and Larson canvassed the election ballots. A motion was made by Chada, seconded by Larson, to declare that Sean Gromer won the three-year trustee term for the Town of Letcher.  

Certificates of Election were issued to Gromer.

Town of Letcher Election Results – Tuesday, April 13th, 2021 – For Trustee – Three-Year Term:

Gregory Knutson: 12

Sean Gromer: 29

Total: 41 

The next board meeting will be held on April 19th, 2021, at 7:00 p.m. at the town office.
