Baseball was back in Wessington Springs Wednesday night. The local Blackhawk baseball team took the field against the visiting team from Madison. The Blackhawks gained a quick lead with two runs in the bottom of the first on four consecutive walks and two wild pitches, but the lead changed hands in the top of the second for good. Madison tallied nine runs in the top of the second aided by six hits and two Blackhawk errors. The margin was too much for the home team to overcome, despite playing well the rest of the seven-inning game. The Blackhawks would score one in the bottom of the second and two in the bottom of the seventh on a two-run double by Draven Thompson. Madison would win the game 12-5. “We continue to have that one bad inning. If we can overcome that hurdle, we will be tough to beat,” Coach Hainy stated.
On Sunday, the Blackhawks played host to Howard in another region game. Despite a late inning rally, the home team Blackhawks would come up short, losing 9-6.
The Blackhawks will be traveling to Bryant next Sunday for a doubleheader with Hamlin and Webster.
