Blackhawks have successful week on the road

Tryce Slykhuis breaks school record for most points scored in a single game

On Monday, Feb. 15, the Blackhawks traveled to Huron to play in a doubleheader against the James Valley Christian Vikings. The evening started with the junior varsity girls winning an easy one against the young Lady Vikings with a final score of SCW 34, JVC 10.

Next up were the junior varsity boys who lost a tight struggle with a final score of SCW 26, JVC 32.

The SCW varsity girls were ahead for most of their game, but James Valley just wouldn’t concede, and they ended up taking control from the Lady Blackhawks, winning in the final minutes with a score of SCW 46, JVC 49.

After three overtime periods, the varsity Blackhawks redeemed their loss to James Valley in the 281 Conference Tournament earlier this season and brought home a victory with a final score of SCW 88, JVC 82.

On Thursday, Feb. 18, both SCW basketball teams traveled to Mitchell to take on the Mitchell Christian Golden Eagles in a doubleheader. The JV girls started the night of play with another solid win and a final score of SCW 36, Mitchell Christian 6.

The junior varsity boys suffered another loss on the road with a final score of SCW 21, Mitchell Christian 32.

The Lady Blackhawks fought another close one to the end, but this time they came out on top with a final score of SCW 36, Mitchell Christian 27.

The varsity Blackhawks got another strong performance out of Tryce Slykhuis to lead them to a close victory over the Golden Eagles in overtime with a final score of SCW 54, Mitchell Christian 50.

The Lady Blackhawks finished their regular season with a record of 10-10. They played in their first round of the Region 4B Tournament against Colman-Egan in Colman on Tuesday, Feb. 23. If they won that game, their next game in the tournament will be tonight (Thursday), with the location to be determined depending on who wins in the other game in the tournament.

The Blackhawk boys will have their final regular season game on Friday, Feb. 26, against the Wessington Springs Spartans at Sanborn Central starting at 5:15 p.m. Their first round of the Region 4B Tournament will be on Monday, March 1 in Woonsocket. If they win that game, their next game will be on Tuesday night, and if they win their second round, they will play on Thursday night in the region championship game.
