The Wessington Springs/Woonsocket/Wolsey-Wessington wrestlers participated in the Parkston Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 23 and brought home more hardware. The Parkston Invitational is normally called the “Little B” Tournament because it is usually a good sign of how the wrestlers will be able to compete in the post-season tournaments. WSWWW had a great performance at a tough tournament with nine wrestlers from the WSWWW team placing in their individual weight class and the team placing fourth overall out of 10 teams.
The following individual winners are listed as wrestler – weight class – placing: Kayden Carter – 113 pounds – fourth; Joey Hoverson – 132 pounds – third; Tyson Eddy – 138 pounds – fourth; Keegan Haider – 152 pounds – second; Carter Grohs – 160 pounds – fourth; Eric Klanchnik – 170 pounds – third; Tyler Eddy – 182 pounds – third; Brock Stevens – 195 pounds – third; and Quinten Christensen – 285 pounds – second. Christensen is rated first in the state in his weight class and suffered only his second loss for the season during the championship match. The wrestler who won the match is from a team in Iowa, so Christensen shouldn’t have to see him on the mat again.
The wrestlers saw their next mat action on Tuesday, Jan. 26, and then they travel to Aberdeen on Saturday for the Lee Wolf Invitational Tournament.
