The third graders prepared for Thanksgiving by holding a parade in the elementary hallway. After studying the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade and reading the book Balloons Over Broadway, each student got to design their own balloon float. They sketched it out, planned how to make it, and then they used the given materials to create their balloons. There were some frustrations in the creations at times, but the colorful, creative balloons brought many smiles to the audience.
Many guests came to the third-grade classroom to assist in the annual sewing project, which has become a favorite activity for many students throughout the years. The students created a Christmas-themed picture on a piece of fabric. Then, various volunteers came to the classroom to share their knowledge of sewing and hopefully impart an appreciation for the art of sewing. The students worked very hard with the help of these extra caring hands to complete this fantastic hand-sewn ornament.
