Mayor Mark Chada called the meeting to order with Sean Gromer, Angie Larson and Angie Meier in attendance. 

A motion was made by Gromer, seconded by Larson, carried to approve the July 2nd, 2024, minutes as read.

A motion was made by Larson, seconded by Gromer, to approve the financials as presented.

Old Business:

Discussion was held on fixing a couple of boards at the community center. Gromer is going to look at this. 

P. Grassel stopped in and was wondering if the Town could spray the mosquitoes. Gromer is planning on spraying again this week. Gromer has been spraying, but with all the extra water this year, it is hard for him to keep up. 

New Business:

Discussion was held on the Letcher Summer Youth, as they were asked to host the 16U Regional Baseball Games. The scheduled dates are for Sunday, July 28th, and Monday, July 29th. They have a list of different things that need to be done before it is held. They also talked about parking, planning to put rope up so they stay off peoples’ lawns and to get people to go through the gate for admission. Update: The foul ball poles and the flagpole will be installed at the ballpark this upcoming weekend.

The next board meeting will be held on August 5th, 2024, at 7 p.m. at the town office.

Diversity is the best way to describe the wide range of topics covered at the 4-H Public Presentation Contest on July 16. Spectators present heard about cedar encroachment, tools, fire extinguishers and safety, dance, sunflower seeds, swine, growing flowers and many more things!  The Sanborn County 4-Hers impressed the audience and judges with their mixture of illustrated talks and demonstrations.  Judging the event this year were Carrie Howard and Candi Danek.  Ribbons were awarded to these deserving 4-Hers:

On Monday, July 15, the South Dakota Special Olympics State Equestrian was held in Watertown with athletes from Sanborn County competing on the Mitchell Outlaws team. Members of the Mitchell Outlaws team include Kyle Clarambeau, of Letcher; Brent Hieb, Ian Ames and Matt Baysinger, all of Mitchell; Garet Alickson, of Belle Fourche; and Blaze Johnson, of Rapid City. Garet Alickson, Kyle Clarambeau and Blaze Johnson were honored as flagbearers in the Opening Ceremony held prior to the competition.

The Mitchell Outlaws earned medals and ribbons for their performances, and their awards are as follows: Showmanship at Halter Class 6A – Ian Ames: bronze, Matt Baysinger: white; Showmanship at Bridle Class 8 – Kyle Clarambeau: gold; Western Equitation Class 17 – Brent Hieb: gold, Class 18 – Ian Ames: bronze, Matt Baysinger: white, Class 21 – Kyle Clarambeau: silver, Garet Alickson: bronze, Blaze Johnson: white; Working Trail Class 28 (lead) – Brent Hieb: gold, Class 28 – Matt Baysinger: gold, Ian Ames: silver, Class 31 – Garet Alickson: gold, Blaze Johnson: bronze; Barrels – Kyle Clarambeau: silver, Blaze Johnson: bronze, Garet Alickson: white.
