In what can only be described as a hard-fought battle, the WWSSC Blackhawks went to Mt. Vernon to take on the MVP Titans and made them earn every point they made. Although the Blackhawks worked well as a united front on both sides of the ball, a couple of missed opportunities for extra points allowed the Titans to give the Blackhawks just their second loss of the season with a final score of 20-22.
After the game, Coach Schmitz had this to say, “This was a very tough game. The Blackhawks fought hard to the very end. We had some opportunities but couldn’t capitalize on enough of them. The kids will bounce back for the first round of the playoffs. We took another step forward as a program. I am very proud of this team and can’t wait to see what we do next.”
The first round of playoffs will take place tonight (Thursday) in Aberdeen at Northern State University’s football field. The Blackhawks will play Aberdeen Roncalli starting at 7 p.m. The second round of play is scheduled for the night of Halloween, so stay tuned to learn when, where and who will be making “trick” plays for the “treat” of a quarterfinals victory.
