Lady Blackhawks have strong finish to busy week

The SCW Lady Blackhawks had a week full of games on the road and came home with mixed results. With a valiant effort and perseverance, they kept pushing and ended the week winning three out of four games at the Warbird Invitational in Wolsey on Saturday.

They started with Corsica-Stickney in Corsica on Tuesday, Sept. 10. The Jaguars were up 2-0 with set scores of 26-28 and 23-25, when the Lady Blackhawks came back with a vengeance, winning the next two sets, 25-7 and 25-12. However, they didn’t have enough to win in the end, and SCW lost in the fifth set, 10-15.

On Thursday, Sept. 12, the Lady Blackhawks traveled to Parkston to take on the Trojans. It was a rough night with some changes made, and the Lady Blackhawks worked hard but the game ended in the Trojans’ favor in three sets with scores of 22-25, 15-25 and 17-25.

On Saturday, Sept. 14, the SCW varsity ladies competed in the Warbird Invitational. It was considered a tournament, but it was all pool play with no brackets for placings. The Sanborn Central/Woonsocket girls were very competitive and won three of their four games for the day.

Their first victory came against Langford Area with set scores of 25-10 and 26-24. Robinson and Boschee both had seven kills apiece.

Their second game of the day was their only loss, and it was against Sioux Falls Lutheran. Set scores were 25-22, 21-25 and 17-25.

Their third matchup was against Leola/Frederick. The Lady Blackhawks snapped back quickly and continued to take care of business with a win in two sets with scores of 25-21 and 25-17.

For the final game of the tournament, the SCW ladies played the Marty Braves. Goertz handed in four kills, three digs and two blocks to help lead the Lady Blackhawks to victory in two sets with scores of 25-8 and 25-14.

For their excellent efforts throughout the tournament, Liz Boschee and Kali Hofer were awarded as members of the All-Tournament team.

The Lady Blackhawks improved to 6-5 on the year as they faced Wessington Springs on Tuesday, Sept. 17 in Woonsocket. They will play Oldham/Ramona/Rutland at Sanborn Central on Saturday, Sept. 21 and then Wolsey-Wessington in Wolsey on Tuesday, Sept. 24. All games are streamed on school websites or youtube channels, so just look them up if you’d like to follow the ladies in their journey this season.
