Three-county police pursuit ends in creek near Alpena

Suspect has felony warrants in Kansas

ALPENA – A pursuit involving personnel from five different counties and the South Dakota Highway Patrol ended with a Kansas man in custody after the vehicle he was driving crashed in a field west of Alpena Monday, Dec. 3.
Jerauld County Sheriff Jason Weber initiated the pursuit about 9:30 a.m. after a report that a person driving a North Dakota-plated pickup had taken diesel fuel from a farm yard south of Gann Valley.
The pursuit ended eight miles west of Alpena in a field when the driver of the pickup crashed the 2013 Chevrolet Duramaax into a creek.
The driver, Charles Leroy Beeney, Jr., 47, of Lansing, Kan., was taken into custody without further incident. Beeney has felony warrants from Kansas.
The Jerauld County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigation.
Assisting in the pursuit were personnel from sheriff’s offices in Sanborn County, Buffalo County, Beadle County and Hand County, as well as the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
