Mary “Joey” Groothuis, 83, passed away on Oct. 25, 2021, at her home in Maryville, Tenn.
A celebration of life service will be held on Nov. 12, from 5-7 p.m. at Faith Promise Church in Maryville, Tenn. A future celebration will take place in her hometown of Woonsocket this spring/summer of 2022.
Joey was born in Woonsocket on Jan. 19, 1938, to Carroll “CW” and Esther (Burger) Ball of Woonsocket. She was one of nine children.
Joey loved her grandkids and watching them play sports, her church family at Faith Promise, family game nights, waterparks, Disney World, NASCAR races, wine, singing, Candy Cane Lane and Christmas lights. She was good at cooking, baking and hosting. Joey loved Utah basketball.
Joey is survived by her husband of 40 years, Kendall Groothuis; son, Jason (Stephanie) Barton of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughter, Sarah (Ronnie Wallace) Barton of Maryville, Tenn.; three grandchildren; and brothers, Tom (Lynette) Ball of Aberdeen, Jim (Mary) Ball of Mesa, Ariz., Bill (Cheryl) Ball of The Villages, Fla., and Larry (Bev) Ball of Murdo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her late husband, Ronald “Babe” Moses; brother, John (Marva) Ball; and sisters, Catherine (James) Howard, Karen (Vince) Grace and Susan (Jerry) Fuerst.
