Jared Goldammer presents his illustrated talk, “How Can Energy Drinks Affect Your Body?”

The Town ‘N Kountry Kids 4-H Club Red Crew met on March 26 in the Woonsocket Community Center. Prior to the meeting, members prepared Easter cards for their elderly friends and  played an Easter relay race led by recreation officer Spens Schlicht.
The meeting was called to order by Secretary Rex Schlicht. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Brooklyn Swenson and the 4-H pledge was led by Jared Goldammer. Corrie Snedeker led roll call with 23 members answering the question, “What is your favorite spring activity?” The secretary’s report was read by Aaron Linke and approved as presented. The treasurer’s report was given by Elliott Ohlrogge and approved as presented.
Megan Linke reported on decorating the nursing home tree in a St. Patrick’s Day theme. Nathan Linke told about the livestock judging school held in Wessington Springs and Aaron talked about the new Consumer Decision Making judging contest that he attended.  Leader Paula Linke explained the changes on judging schools for this year.
Under old business, the club discusesd fruit sales. They are confident that the goal of averaging 15 items sold per family was met. The Ohlrogge family came in with the top sales. The total county profit from the fruit sales was over $2,500.
Next, the club moved to new business. President Jonathan Linke joined the meeting and he and Corrie explained a community service project that they are helping plan. There will be a Farm Safety Day sponsored by Farmers Union and presented on May 22 at the 4-H Building. The day will include safety presentations, safety games and making your own first aid kit.
Members were informed that there is a change this year with the new 4-H online system. Members must be registered for any project area that they plan to exhibit in this year by May 31.
There is a Livestock Judging School planned at the Moore Angus farm on April 1 at 1:30 p.m. The 4-H insurance this year has been paid by the Sanborn County Leaders Association.  Sanborn County 4-H received a Monsanto Grow Communities grant of $2,500 thanks to Kevin Baysinger who won the drawing and picked 4-H as the recipient. The money will be used towards 4-H grounds improvements.
The club talked about planning for an event to promote June as dairy month and applying for a grant.
Following the meeting, the club had a few talks.  Brooklyn Swenson gave a demonstration on making s’mores. Emily Ohlrogge presented an illustrated talk on how to properly mount pictures for photography. Evan Ohlrogge gave an illustrated talk on using a tripod and monopod with your camera for photography.  Jared Goldammer taught us about the risks of energy drinks with his illustrated talk on “How Can Energy Drinks Affect Your Body?”
Leader Paula Linke led a short activity on the character trait trustworthiness.
Lunch was served by Jared and Brooklyn. The next meeting will be scheduled in April.
